2023 Corn Variety Trial Results

Results from the 2023 Northeast Ag Expo corn variety trials are attached to this newsletter. These trials were conducted in Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Gates, and Pasquotank Counties. The top three yielding varieties within each location have their ranking marked as following: 1 (blue), 2 (yellow), 3 (red). Production information for each location can be found on the back of the results page, and the plant height and ear height data collected at the Camden location is attached as well. Thank you to each of the local farm cooperators and agribusinesses for their contributions to these trials. Without their support, we would not be able to provide this locally generated information to the region’s farmers. I would like to especially thank Black Gold Farms for providing the land and other resources necessary for the Camden County location.

Soil Sampling: Peak Season Date

North Carolinians may have their soil tested throughout most of the year free of charge by the Agronomic Division of the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. However, from December 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024, there is a peak season fee of $4 per sample. We have soil sample boxes and shippers available at the Extension Office. To avoid peak season fees and shipping costs bring your soil samples to the N.C. Cooperative Extension of Camden County office by 5 p.m. on November 27th.
