Calling all ghouls, goblins, and giggling ghosts! This October, join our Trick-or-Trek Halloween Walking Challenge, a festive, family-friendly way to build healthy movement habits that will keep your feet flying all the way to Halloween night, and beyond! Best of all, you can do it on your own time and in your favorite places.

Why Join?

We all know that Halloween is more hustle than haunt, especially for little legs. By house two, someone’s already asking for a piggyback ride. But what if we could build up that walking stamina ahead of time?

The 28-day Trick-or-Trek challenge is designed to do just that, turning daily movement into a fun, rewarding habit. According to research from the CDC and Harvard Health, habit formation begins with consistency, and walking just a little every day improves endurance, mood, and overall physical health for kids and adults!

As your local Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS) Agent, I’m here to cheer you on as we lace up, head out, and embrace October in all its spooky, silly glory.

How It Works:

  • Pick one walk per day from our 28-day Trick-or-Trek calendar.
  • Track your progress by marking your calendars with stickers, crayons, or your favorite markers.
  • Want more of a challenge? Add time, distance, or your own silly variations.
  • Need to Modify? If a challenge becomes too challenging, create one that works for you and your crew, then mark off a spot on the calendar. (feel free to reach out for some ideas)
  • Snap a photo of your crew and marked calendars. Even if you don’t get to them all, we would love to showcase your hard work.
  • Email a photo & names to kristi_willard@ncsu.edu by November 5th to be featured in our celebration post!

Who Can Participate?

Everyone! Toddlers, teens, parents, teachers, and grandparents, you’re all invited. Whether you walk solo, with a pet bat, or your whole creepy crew, you’re part of the fun.

Bonus points if you snap your victory photo in costume!

The Treats:

  • Strengthen walking endurance before Halloween night.
  • Build lifelong healthy habits.
  • Create spooky fun memories as a family or community.
  • Get featured in our county-wide celebration post!

Let’s “creep” it going this October and prove that healthy habits can be both magical and meaningful.

Download your calendar and get walking!
