The Youth EEASI Challenge is a two-week summer experience for high-school-age youth that’s designed to spark entrepreneurial thinking and strengthen skills for collective problem-solving, setting youth up for long-term personal and professional success. The program is designed to inspire, inform, and involve youth in real-world problem-solving for businesses and communities.

Program Details

The Youth EEASI Challenge will be held July 20–31, 2020, meeting daily (Monday through Friday) from 9 a.m. to noon. All sessions will be held virtually using Zoom video conference technology.

Week 1: Entrepreneurial Mindset

  • Learn entrepreneurship as an essential life skill based on experiential problem-solving
  • Engage in the fundamental aspects of an entrepreneurial mindset and the unlimited opportunities it can provide 
  • Implement the entrepreneurial mindset to recognize problems as opportunities

Week 2: Collective Problem Solving

  • Put your entrepreneurial mindset into action! Learn the tools needed for modern work; these tools provide an easy yet powerful process for problem-solving
  • Combine mindset and tools to work in a team to solve a real problem for a local business, you’ll receive coaching along the way to support your team’s work
  • End the week with a proposal meeting where you and your team will workshop your solution concept with your business partner

What Participants Will Gain through the Program

Youth who complete the program can expect a number of benefits:

  • Build your resume by solving real-world community and business challenges;
  • Gain knowledge and skills in the areas of an entrepreneurial mindset and collective problem-solving;
  • Learn practical tools for working in teams;
  • Meet and learn from local business owners, community leaders, and youth from other schools;
  • Have an opportunity to pitch your own ideas and present solutions to a real business facing a real problem; and 
  • Receive a certificate of completion following the program

Meet our Participants! 

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be high-school age.
  • Must be able to attend and actively engage in all sessions for the full duration of the two-week program.
  • Priority consideration will be given to youth living in Southeast Raleigh (zip codes 27601, 27603, 27610), with some consideration also given to applicants in SEV’s eastern Wake County zone (zip codes 27591, 27545, 27597). Individuals residing in other areas of Raleigh/Wake County are welcome to apply but will receive lower priority in the review process.

Access to Technology

Because this program will be held online, all participants will need to have consistent access to a computer and a stable internet connection. However, resources may be available to provide a laptop and wifi to those without access. Please indicate this need in your application. Access to technology does not impact the selection process.
