Olivia Patchel (right) receives award from Karen Munden, President of the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences at their national conference in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

It has been a big year for Olivia (Jones) Patchel. Most recently, Mrs. Patchel was presented the “Outstanding Family and Consumer Sciences Agent” award at the statewide conference of N.C. Cooperative Extension held in Raleigh, NC. This award came on the heels of a Southern US Regional as well as a National Marketing Package Award from the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences.

These awards were in recognition of her trend-setting “What’s Cooking Marketing Campaign.” This campaign utilizes a variety of digital and print media resources to advertise healthy cooking and food preservation classes offered through N.C. Cooperative Extension in Currituck County. Sherry Lynn, County Administrative Assistant was also recognized as a team member on the project.

“It is no surprise that this outstanding team was recognized by their peers,” stated Cameron Lowe, County Extension Director. “Olivia and Sherry have been pioneering new strategies in marketing that have been replicated by the rest of our staff as well as colleagues across the state for a number of years.”

Mrs. Patchel received the award on behalf of the team at the National meeting held in Hershey, Pennsylvania in early October. She was then asked to deliver a “lightning session” describing the project to the conference. Methods and results of the campaign were also shared with her colleagues via a poster presentation at the event.
