On Friday, June 21, 2019, five Chatham County 4-H members competed at the North Central District 4-H Activity Day in Orange County. These members competed alongside youth from nineteen surrounding counties in the district. Of the five competitors, four were first-time presenters which is a big accomplishment in itself. The 4-H participants were Zva Rodriguez, Celene Mendoza-Villegas, Abigail Molina-Bacho, Avery Wright, and Santos Vazquez-Quiquiuix, who are all members of the Clover Creators 4-H Club from Siler City.

The results of the competition were as follows: Zva and Celene won gold in Citizenship/Community Service for their individual age group, Abigail and Avery won gold in Environmental Science for their individual age group, and Santos won silver in Entomology for his individual age group. All five competitors qualified for the NC State 4-H Presentations contest scheduled for Saturday, July 20, 2019, at North Carolina State University. Best of luck to them as they advance to compete at the state level!

Congratulations to Santos, Celene, Zva, Avery, and Abigail! We are very proud you and your accomplishments.medal winners

ABOUT N.C. COOPERATIVE EXTENSION AND 4-H YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

N.C. Cooperative Extension is a strategic partnership of NC State Extension, The Cooperative Extension Program at N.C. A&T State University, USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (USDA-NIFA), and local governments statewide.

Extension professionals in all 100 counties and with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians connect millions of North Carolinians with research-based information and technology from NC State and N.C. A&T. Educational programs specialize in agriculture, food and nutrition, 4-H youth development, community development and the environment.

4-H is North Carolina’s largest youth development organization, equipping more than 262,000 young people each year with the skills necessary to succeed and improve the world around them. 4-H programs and camps encourage young people to “learn by doing,” helping them to develop into active, contributing citizens. NC State Extension and the Cooperative Extension Program at N.C. A&T University coordinate 4-H programs statewide.
