Cooking is an art form and once you master the basics the kitchen can be your canvas. Beginners to seasoned cooks are invited to join N.C. Cooperative Extension for one or more of the Back to the Basics Cooking Classes. View the schedule and class description below to pick the class(es) that most interest you. All classes are hands-on and tasting is a must.
Soups and Sauces
Learn about the “Mother Sauces” and how they can be altered to fit your tastes. Create easy and delicious soups your family will love! Register to join us on October 8, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., for a great basic class to help expand your cooking skills. Class fee is $10.00.
There is nothing like homemade biscuits right out of the oven. But sometimes we make hockey pucks and sometimes we made pancakes. On November 2, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., to learn to make buttermilk, and sweet potato biscuits for only $10.00.
Impress your family with warm fresh made bread this holiday season! On November 7, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., learn to make a versatile Italian bread and explore the many ways it can be used! We will also be making a 100% whole wheat bread the whole family will enjoy. Class fee is $10.00.
Baking is part of the Holiday season. Join us on December 5, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., as we explore many ways to bake the perfect pound cake that is sure to impress those hard to buy for people on your Christmas List. Class fee is $10.00.

Class size is limited and reservations are made upon receipt of class fee. Payments can be made in person at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Currituck County Center or by mailing a check made payable to “Currituck County” to 120 Community Way, Barco, NC 27917.
