The 2017 Worker Protection Standards update mandates that when a respirator is required by product labeling applicators must complete a medical evaluation and be fit tested annually. This includes dust mist respirators. Many products require use of a respirator, some examples are: Gramoxone (Paraquat), Orthene (Acephate), and many more.

Cooperative Extension has partnered with Henderson and Associates, Inc., and Albemarle Regional Health Services to offer a Respirator Fit Testing & Medical Clearance Clinic on Friday, March 2. This event will be held at Henderson and Associates, Inc. located at 330 Camden Causeway, Elizabeth City, NC, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Appointments will be on a first come, first served basis.

Those coming must bring the respirator they will be using on the farm for the fit test. Both the fit test and medical clearance will be done, but you must first have the medical clearance to be fit tested. Although there is no charge for the fit test, the medical clearance cost is $40 so come prepared to pay.
