judges looking at prepared foodIt is that time again! Time to start getting prepared for 4-H Presentations and 4-H District Activity Day! It is never too early to start preparing and it is always a good idea to get a good head start.

This year, the Northeast District 4-H Activity Day will be held on Friday, June 23, 2017 at North Pitt High School in Greenville, NC. June 23rd may sound like a ways away, but an early start will ensure great results this year. 4-H Presentations are open to any youth between the ages of 5 and 19. They are a great way to learn public speaking and organizational skills while potentially earning prizes! To help with the preparation process, a workshop entitled “Cue Up the Video” has been planned.

The “Cue up the Video” workshop is a spring break workshop that is strongly encouraged for all 4-H presenters to rehearse public speaking skills, as well as get a head start on presentation outlines and research. “Cue up the Video” will be held at the Camden County Public Library on Wednesday, April 19th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is NO cost for this workshop. Simply bring lunch money for an Itza Boutza lunch. Youth will learn more about 4-H presentations, the basis of the outline for 4-H presentations, and also what a public service announcement is. Youth will use their 4-H presentation topics to create a 30 to 60 second PSA. Youth will learn how to storyboard and layout their video and then we will learn various videography techniques, along with public speaking and how to act in front of the camera. Once the PSA’s and the youth are ready, we will set up and shoot. This will be a fun and hands-on way to work on specific public speaking skills from making outlines to doing the research to setting up the shot to finalizing the presentation.

To sign up for the “Cue up the Video” workshop, please register online  or call the Camden Extension Office at 331-7630.
