This informational session scheduled for Monday, January 9th has been postponed and will be re-scheduled due to the wintery weather conditions. We will notify everyone of the new date and time as soon as possible. Please keep a look out on this website, our Extension social media sites, as well as your email and regular mail for future updates. Please stay safe with these weather conditions.

The Camden County Extension Staff will be conducting an informational meeting for ALL youth and parents of individuals residing in Camden County that plan to participate or would like to participate in the 2017 Albemarle Area 4-H Livestock Show & Sale. We will meet on Monday, January 9th beginning at 6:30 p.m., at the Camden County Senior Center located at 117 NC Highway 343 North, Camden, NC 27921 (directly behind the Camden County Courthouse.)  We strongly encourage ALL youth and parents to attend this meeting whether they are experienced showmen in the Albemarle Area 4-H Livestock Show and Sale or brand new to this fun and educational learning experience.

During this informational session, we will be going over all of the rules, particularly the ones that have been changed and revised. You may review the 2017 rules. One reason we are conducting this informational meeting, is to help explain the rules and the changes, and make them as clear as possible to all participants prior to the show. If you are unable to attend this meeting, please pay close attention to all of the rules since we do not want any questions to arise when the show gets here. If after reading these rules you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our office and we will be glad to explain them to you.

Remember if you are showing a steer it had to be owned and on the farm by Saturday, December 31, 2016 and you must contact the extension center in your county. All other animals must be on the farm by no later than Wednesday, March 1, 2017. All steers will be tagged by January 9th, and all other animals will be tagged by March 15th by an extension staff member.

We will be getting hogs from Sharpe Farms again this year so if you would like to have a hog from there please let our extension office staff know by Thursday, January 26, 2017. Also, if you need help securing a lamb or goat please contact the extension center as soon as possible, and we will do our best to help you locate one. This is an important deadline as we have to meet a deadline with another office and the producer. Please do not wait until the last minute to notify us.

Every participant must complete a registration form and return the form to their extension office by Tuesday, February 28th with the exhibitor’s name, age, contact phone number and physical address of where the animal is located to be eligible to compete in official judging. We know that the animals are not tagged by this time this just gives us the location of animals and what animals we are to be tagging. You will receive this registration form, along with the other necessary 4-H forms and 4-H Project Record Books at this informational meeting on Monday, January 9th.

We would also like to make everyone aware that we will not be having an awards banquet this year. It is quite evident that we have expanded over the years and we have outgrown the K.E. White Center. This year we will be having an awards celebration (no meal) but the date and time has not been decided as of yet.

We know this is a lot of information so please feel free to contact us at 331-7630 should you have any questions. Also, if you know of anyone that did not show last year but is interested in showing this year’s show please have them contact our office as soon as possible.

We look forward to meeting with each and every one of you during this informational session on Monday, January 9th, 2017 at the Camden County Senior Center beginning at 6:30 p.m. This is a very important meeting with tons of information to be given, and a perfect time to have your questions answered. Please make sure to mark your calendars and make every effort to attend. Who knows…there may even be a really cool door prize available for those who attend! For more information or to sign up, please call the Camden Extension Office at 331-7630.
